Terms of service

1. About these terms

SideQuestle is operated by Sevvel Mahendranathan, an individual based in Australia (“SideQuestle”, “we”, “us”). These terms cover the SideQuestle app and website. Contact help@sidequestle.com with questions or legal notices.

When these terms take effect, using the service means agreeing to them and the Community guidelines. Please also read our Privacy policy and Safety guide. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms do not ask you to waive rights that the law protects.

2. Who can play

You must be at least 13 and meet any higher minimum age or independent-consent requirement where you live. If you are below the legal age to enter this agreement, a parent or guardian must review it and permit your use where local law allows. Permission alone does not override a higher legal minimum age.

SideQuestle is not intended for children under 13. Do not create an account or submit a photo if you do not meet the applicable requirements. Availability can differ by country, device, and game.

3. Guests and accounts

You can try Quest as a guest. A free permanent account is required to join account-based World and Friends rankings. Photo saving is unavailable in the first release. Guest progress is associated with the guest identity; do not assume signing into an existing account will merge it. Read the choice shown in the app before continuing.

Keep your sign-in details secure, use a username that follows our guidelines, and do not impersonate someone else. Tell us if you think your account has been accessed without permission. Never share a sign-in code with support or another player.

4. Quests, results and fair play

SideQuestle is a collection of daily games, starting with Quest. Quest asks you to find something in real life and photograph it. Follow the rules and ranking window shown for each game or challenge. Future games may have different rules.

For timed photo Quests, the time is based on the start of the attempt and the capture time of the photo that passes verification, not how long the upload takes. Leaving the screen does not necessarily pause an attempt. Daily and archive results can have different ranking eligibility.

Completing a photo Quest requires AI photo checking. The app asks separately during setup before sending a photo and the Quest instructions to OpenAI. If you decline, you can use parts of SideQuestle that do not require photo checking.

Do not use bots, modified clients, manipulated timestamps, someone else’s photo, synthetic images, or other methods to misrepresent a result. We may investigate, correct, or exclude unreliable results and restrict abusive accounts. We cannot guarantee an uninterrupted connection, a particular rank, or that every automated decision is correct. You can ask us to review an error.

The website Quest demo is practice only. It does not submit your photo for AI checking, create an official result, or save progress to an app account.

5. Safety comes first

A clue is an invitation, never an instruction to take a risk. Stop or skip anything unsafe, unlawful, inaccessible, or uncomfortable. Never play while driving, enter private property without permission, or endanger yourself, another person, an animal, or the environment. No time, rank, or streak is worth an injury.

Check your surroundings and obtain permission to photograph people, property, or restricted places. Read the Safety guide. SideQuestle is not an emergency service.

6. Your photos and content

You keep ownership of photos and other content you submit. Only submit content you have the rights and necessary permissions to use. Avoid sensitive information and identifiable people who have not agreed to be photographed and, separately, to any public sharing.

You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to process, host, reproduce, resize, and display your content only as needed to provide the features you request, check submissions, keep the service safe, and meet legal obligations. Our service providers may do this on our behalf. This is not permission to use a private photo in advertising.

Saved photo memories and public photo sharing are unavailable in the first release. If you shared a photo during testing, you can ask us to hide or delete it, though people may already have viewed or copied it. Deleting content ends our permission except for limited retention described in the Privacy policy. Separate marketing use would require separate permission.

7. Reports and restrictions

We may hold, reject, or remove content, restrict a feature, or suspend or close an account when reasonably necessary to address a guideline breach, cheating, a security risk, or a legal requirement. We consider the nature and seriousness of the issue. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason, unless doing so would compromise safety, an investigation, or the law.

Use in-app report and block controls or email us. You can challenge a moderation or account decision by identifying the account or result and explaining what you think is wrong. See the reporting and review process. A rejected photo is not a finding that you acted dishonestly.

8. Free launch and future features

Quest launches free. Saved photo memories and subscriptions are unavailable in the first release. You will not be enrolled in a paid plan automatically.

More games and optional paid features may be introduced later. Any purchase will require a separate choice, with its price, benefits, renewal terms, cancellation instructions, and applicable store rules shown before purchase. These terms do not start a subscription or guarantee that every future feature will be free. Statutory refund and consumer rights continue to apply.

9. The service and our content

We give you a personal, non-exclusive permission to use the app and website lawfully under these terms. SideQuestle’s software, branding, artwork, and authored game content remain the property of their respective owners. Do not copy or commercially distribute them without permission, except where law permits.

We may update, maintain, or retire features for product, safety, technical, or legal reasons. We will give reasonable notice of material changes or discontinuation where practicable and respect rights concerning paid services. Keep your own copy of photos that matter to you; SideQuestle is not a backup service.

Apple, Google, and other services you choose have their own terms. Applicable app-store licence terms also apply to your download. They do not replace our responsibilities for SideQuestle.

10. Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a guarantee, remedy, or right that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law and mandatory consumer laws in your country. This includes any applicable rights to repair, replacement, refund, or compensation.

We use reasonable care in providing the service, but cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. Each party remains responsible to the extent required by applicable law. These terms do not exclude responsibility for fraud, deliberate misconduct, or other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Australian law governs these terms, subject to the mandatory laws and consumer protections of your usual country of residence. You retain any right to bring a claim in your local courts. Contact us if you would like to try resolving a dispute informally; this is not a condition of exercising your legal rights.

11. Leaving or changing these terms

You can stop using SideQuestle at any time and request account deletion. Uninstalling the app or clearing device data does not itself delete a cloud account.

We will publish changes here with an updated date and give appropriate notice of material changes. Where agreement or consent is required, we will ask for it. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights you already have. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest continue to apply so far as legally permitted.
